We have returned from our magical Disney vacation...Although it was super hot and humid, horribly crowded, and extremely stressful - Livvy and I had a great time.
We went down to Detroit the night before we left because our plane was leaving at 7:10 a.m. Of course everyone was too excited to sleep, so it was close to 10 p.m. by the time we got to sleep. Let me just say, 4:15 a.m. came way too quickly! Groggy and tired, we schlepped our way to the airport with what felt like 400 pounds of luggage.
Our plane departed on time, and the flight from Detroit to Memphis was pretty good. Liv was excited because she got to chew gum. Who knew she would be so easy to entertain?? The flight from Memphis to Orlando was not so good...It was a very bumpy ride, and mommy was definitely wishing she would have taken Dramamine!!! We arrived in Orlando at almost noon, and, by the time we hauled all of our stuff to the Magical Express (Disney's transportation from the airport to your resort), we were already whipped and just ready to get to Disney! There's definitely nothing magical about the Magical Express. An hour after our arrival, we finally boarded our bus to take us to our resort. As luck would have it, our bus stopped at four resorts, ours being the last stop...After another hour on our bus, we finally arrived at Fort Wilderness. It was terribly hot, and of course, we had to again wait for a van to take us to our cabin. After more waiting, (this time in the blazing hot sun), we finally made it to our cabin. By now it was 2:30 and we knew we were not going to make it to our 3:00 lunch reservations at Crystal Palace, so we were already a little bummed...Oh well, we rested for a few minutes, and then Liv and I headed to the bus stop. We rode the bus to the boat launch, and from there, we took the boat to the Magic Kingdom. After waiting in two more lines, one to get our bags searched, and the next line at the actual entrance to the park, we were finally inside the Magic Kingdom. By now, we had already been up and around for 12 hours, and now we were finally going to "begin" our day...The crowds were awful. Main Street was packed with people and strollers and amigos. It was difficult to even maneuver toward Cinderella's castle, but we finally made it. We got to watch a show, which Olivia loved, and then they had a dance party/parade, which Liv really enjoyed. She got a glimpse of all the characters, and actually liked them, so seems like we were off to a good start. We wandered around for awhile, and I decided to take her to the Country Bear Jamboree. To say she loved it is an understatement. She clapped and stomped, and had a great time. Little did I know, this would be my first of many trips to see the Country Bears. Then we went on It's a Small World. Of course she loved that as well. Spectromagic, which is Disney's electrical light parade, was starting at 8, so at 7:30 we tried finding a spot to sit. Finding a spot to sit was like getting the $99 flat screen tv on Black Friday - next to impossible! After a half hour of walking around, some nice people let us sit by them, and then when everyone around us stood up, they even let Olivia go right up front with their kids so that she could see. Liv loved the parade, but we were too tired to stay for the fireworks...Oh, and did I mention that it started to rain as soon as the parade ended??
Now we had to trek down Main Street to the exit in the rain. Wasn't too bad at first, just a light drizzle, which we didn't actually mind since it was still smoking hot at 9 p.m. About halfway to the boat which would take us back to the campground, it started to downpour(Did I mention that Olivia chose this time to fall asleep in the stroller??). It poured the entire boatride to Ft. Wilderness, and seemed to rain even harder as we had to exit the boat with a sleeping child and head to the bus stop. We ran through what seemed like 2 feet of water, and piled on the bus, which of course was standing room only. It was still pouring when we got off the bus, and then had to walk to the cabin. Thankfully, I had packed ponchos for Liv and I, so we stayed drier than most, although we were still completely drenched. All I can say is what a way to start our vacation!!!
