Last week Olivia's kindergarten class put on a play, "Friendly Neighborhood Helpers". First Olivia informed me that she was a kid in the plumber's song. She really wanted to be a librarian, but she was happy to have a part. She brought home words to her song, and refused to practice in front of mommy or daddy. Her teacher informed me she knew the words but needed to work on her volume. Hmmmm...She doesn't seem to have a volume problem under normal circumstances at home. Olivia and her friend Ava were to perform a duet. Olivia was the mother in the plumber's song (Hey, I thought you were the kid??), and Ava was the child. As the performance date got closer, Liv's teacher kept telling me that she was doing better, and keep up the good work. Thankfully, my child seems to have a photographic memory, and the practice that they did at school was enough for her to memorize her parts. As a matter of fact, she seemed to know everyone else's parts, too. (She definitely didn't get her memory from me....) She was so excited about her upcoming play. She needed to dress like a mom. Leave it to grandma to have the perfect outfit and little high heels for our little star.
Finally, it was showtime! They had two performances, one during the day for the entire school, and one in the evening. All three kindergarten classes participated in the play. They were all absolutely adorable! We went to both performances, just in case the twins decided to talk through the play. (Not that they would ever do that!). When Olivia's class came walking down the aisle to take their place on the stage, I couldn't help but tear up. Oh my goodness, my little girl is doing her first performance, and I was so proud of her! Her class was the last one to perform, and surprisingly, the show lasted almost an hour. They all did so well sitting still for so long and waiting for their turns. There was one point during the daytime performance we got a little worried because Olivia kept grabbing herself....We were worried that she had to go potty. Daddy tried to mouth the words, "Do you have to go potty" to her and she seemed to understand and shake her head no. Whew! Well, than stop grabbing yourself! I thought to myself. Oh well, at least she wasn't up on the stage at the time.
When it was Olivia and Ava's turn to perform, they were completely adorable! They both had so much expression on their faces, and did such a wonderful job. (I know I'm a little biased, but they were really good!). After the show, we gave Olivia a bouquet of flowers. The kindergarteners also had a "cast party" at Fuzzy's afterward, so Liv was thrilled to go hang out with her friends and have ice cream. That was definitely one of the best, and most proud moments for me as a mother.
